Humans are sociable and they like to be liked, as part of a group.
Therefore, no one would willingly exclude themselves from 'society' unless they were doing it with some one (eg, a bunch of friends). Which would be a sort of subculture or lifestyle, from which others could leave, join, steal ideas and looks from, be waterd down, or form a cult-like twin in a group (very not individual)!
So when people are divided into groups there are certain commanalities which overwigh the differnces between these individuals BUT winin the subculture the tiniest tweak in dress is detected by those belonging to that group, making it possible for an individual to be an individual WITHIN a support network or group. (Ithe UK there is a more potently individual form of this individuality with support, called 'Double Dressing')
IF by some chance and individual was able to forge a new identity unlike anything thing ever seen before, a sort of inovation, then all of his friends would think he looked super cool and would copy him, therefore creating a new 'sub-culture' around this new look, taking away the intense individuality of the creator, who would then be left to find a new more exciting fashion innovation, which in todays world where everything goes, is becoming increasingly more difficult.
So in a way, the state of individuality is killing itself....
